River & Lake Conditions

• Sheep River near Okotoks: Currently at 3.6 m³/s with flows falling, offering clear conditions perfect for targeting browns, rainbows, and mountain whitefish.
• Ghost River: Flowing at 3.5 m³/s and also falling, it's excellent for bull and cutthroat trout fishing this time of year.
• Highwood River near High River: At 6.9 m³/s, the river is falling; high flows but clearing. Caution is advised due to higher-than-normal flows.
• Oldman River near Lethbridge: Low at 22.9 m³/s with flows rising—it’s near summer fishing levels, good for pike and trout along bank structures.

Weather Impact by Area

• Bow Valley / Foothills: Expect overcast conditions with temperatures peaking around 29°C. Winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h will challenge dry fly presentations; opt for nymphing or streamer tactics.

• Crowsnest Pass: Clear skies and warm temperatures up to 28°C make for pleasant conditions. Winds in the afternoon, though, could reach gusts of 35-37 km/h, affecting dry fly accuracy.

• Central and Northern Rivers: With mainly clear skies and rising temperatures to 30°C, fishing remains promising. Moderate winds in the 20-30 km/h range will require nymphs or streamers for better success.

Hatch Activity & Fly Fishing

• Sheep River: Midges, Blue-winged Olives, and Grasshoppers are highly active. Focus on nymphing with Chironomidae #18-26. During calmer afternoon periods, try hopper patterns #8-12 along the banks.
