Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-05-20. AB Fish Report (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by AB Fish Report at abfishreport.ca. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your choices.
Contact us
AB Fish Report operates AB Fish Report. For privacy requests, data deletion, bug reports, or questions about this policy, email:
contact@abfishreport.ca- Delete my data — include the email address you used to subscribe. We will remove your newsletter record and confirm when complete (typically within 30 days).
- Report a bug — describe what went wrong, the page URL, and your browser if possible. We investigate security and accuracy issues promptly.
What we collect
- Newsletter email — only if you submit the signup form with explicit marketing and privacy acknowledgements.
- Consent records — the consent version and timestamp of choices you make on signup (stored with your email).
- Cookie preferences — your essential/analytics choices, stored in your browser (localStorage). We do not receive this unless you opt into analytics (see below).
- Rate-limit identifiers — when you use forms or APIs, we may process a hashed or truncated client identifier (such as IP address) in short-lived server records to prevent abuse. These rows expire automatically and are not used for marketing.
- Hosting & security logs — our hosting provider (Vercel) may process IP addresses, request URLs, and browser metadata in server logs for delivery, debugging, and security. We do not use these logs to build marketing profiles.
- Analytics (optional) — if you opt in via the cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 may collect pseudonymous usage data such as pages viewed, approximate geography, device type, referrer, and session duration. Analytics is off by default.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Fishing conditions pages do not require an account, and we do not knowingly collect payment or government ID information on this site.
How we use your information
- Operate and secure the website (hosting, HTTPS, abuse prevention).
- Maintain the newsletter waitlist and send updates you have agreed to receive.
- Measure anonymous site performance when you opt into analytics.
- Respond to privacy, deletion, and bug-report requests you send us.
Daily fishing reports are generated automatically from public government and open-data sources. We do not send your email or cookie data to AI providers. Report generation uses aggregated conditions data only.
Newsletter & marketing
The newsletter is currently a waitlist — we are not sending campaigns yet. When you subscribe, we store your email to notify you about Alberta fishing updates and, if you opt in on the form, occasional marketing or partner offers related to fishing in Alberta.
You may withdraw consent or request deletion at any time by emailing contact@abfishreport.ca from the address you used to subscribe.
Cookies & similar technologies
Essential storage: we store your cookie consent choice in localStorage so the banner does not reappear unnecessarily. This is required to remember your preferences and is always enabled.
Analytics (optional): disabled by default. If you enable analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to understand which pages are visited, how users navigate the site, and general traffic sources. We configure IP anonymization, disable Google Ads personalization signals, and send page views with path and title only after you opt in. Google may process data in the United States; see Google's privacy policy for their safeguards.
You can change your mind anytime by clearing site data or using the button below. You may also use Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Third-party map tiles (OpenStreetMap), government data APIs, and external regulation links do not receive your email. Embedded resources may receive standard web request metadata (IP address, user agent) under their own policies when your browser loads them.
Service providers
We use trusted processors to run the site. They access data only as needed to provide their service:
- Vercel — website hosting and edge delivery.
- Supabase — database for newsletter emails, consent records, and ephemeral rate-limit counters (encrypted in transit; not readable by anonymous visitors).
- Google Analytics — optional usage analytics (only with your consent).
- OpenAI — AI text generation for daily reports from aggregated public conditions data (not from your signup form).
We require appropriate contractual and security measures where applicable. We do not authorize service providers to sell your personal information.
Legal basis & retention
We process newsletter data based on your consent. We process analytics data based on your consent. We process security and rate-limit data based on our legitimate interest in protecting the site and users from abuse.
- Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe or request deletion, plus a reasonable backup window if required.
- Rate-limit records: short fixed windows (minutes), then deleted automatically.
- Cookie preferences: until you clear site data or we publish a new consent version.
- Analytics: per Google's retention settings in our GA4 property (typically 2–14 months for event data).
